The Genesis of Interior Design – The Eden Experience.

In the beginning the earth was without form (arrangement) and void (empty). Have you ever pictured a formless and void earth in your mind? Well, that was the trigger for all creation, even Interior Design. The moment you cannot give form or shape to any space, chaos is inevitable. Triggered by the formless state of the earth, God began to get creative with His environment, that introduces us to the beginning of creating and designing of space.

Interior Design is the art of recreating our indoor environment into what it should be; aesthetic, excellent, beautiful and functional. With this introduction, let’s take a look at Eden and get some foundational lessons for our home interior and organization. Continue........
Eden is the first abode God created for mankind and He spared nothing in ensuring that the abode meets heaven’s standard. A look at Eden will enlighten us on God’s plan for the organisation and interior of our homes. Below are 10 lessons from Eden that will guarantee you a Peace Haven Interior Experience.

1. Gen. 2:8- “Now the Lord God had planted garden in the east, in Eden: and there he put the man he had formed.” The home is God’s creation for man. God did not leave man to wander around in empty space. He took out His time to create a special abode for him. A man who misses his way anywhere, must always be able to trace his step home. We all need a space whether owed or rented to call our home. No matter where that space is, urban or ghetto, it is your Eden and should be given ultimate attention.

2. Gen.2:9a –“Now the Lord planted a Garden…..” An Edenic element we should all strive to have in our home is Greens and Freshness – Our homes should have some flowers and should always be kept fresh. Tips on using flowers /plant to heighten freshness in your interior will be shared soon on interior majik, so stay tuned.

3. Gen.2:9b- “Trees that were pleasing to the eyes…….” Our homes should be beautiful to look at.

4. Gen.2:10a- “A river to water the garden flowed from Eden. That speaks of cleanliness and maintenance. Our homes should be clean and should have daily routines to ensure our homes are properly kept.

5. Gen.2:10b- “From there it was separated into four head waters.” Our homes should be organised. Make space for everything and keep everything in it’s space.

6. Gen.2:9c – “The tree of life was in the middle of the garden, also the tree of knowledge……” The home is the first institution that grooms the child, so the designing and running of our homes should point people to good and God. Be soft in designing.

7. Gen.2:11- “It winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold.” Our homes should be wealthy and classy. No matter the location of your residence, urban or ghetto you should add some class to your interior and environment. God wants us living royally.

8. Gen.2:12a- “Aromatic resin and onyx are also there. “Our homes should have sweet smells. Use diffusers, room fragrances, scented candles, dispensers and others to keep your room scented. That is Eden standard.

9. Gen.2:15 – The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it…….” - Our homes should have functionality. We are to work our interior to work for us. Our interior have a role to play in our functionality. A well worked on house will definitely have a positive impact on our psyche and guess who is to work it, you.

10. Gen.2:15b’……. take care of it”- This might not be in the 10 commandments, but it is disobedience to God not to take care of our interior/home. Under God’s instruction, He wants us to care for our home look and how it is managed.

If your home is not working for you, then you have some work to do. Stay tuned to Home Management Matters (HOMM) on Interior Majik on tips on how to make your interior/home work for you.
