Interior: When you think Africa, don't think Black but Brown.

Grew up to hear and study that Africa is a dark continent, sure you all have heard that. And am like dark? Could it be our skin , the forestry nature of Africa, or our cooking pot? Guess all of the dark concept is changing in Africa. Interior design in Africa, is dominantly a brown room. What comes to some of our minds for traditionally styled spaces is a room with all the African artifact you can lay your hands on. The “Shaka Zulu” spears on the walls, a life sized wooden statue of a lion called “TUMBA” that was killed during a hunt in Zambia, huge bulky dull colored uncomfortable leather sofas that smell like goat skin (don’t you just hate those) with dangerous looking throw pillows, a zebra skinned throw carpet (poor Zebra) with a carved wooden rhino coffee table, a wall painting of a fisherman and his son on a canoe, huge flower vases with jungle-style artificial plants and curtains that look like patterned mosquito nets……..are you one of those?

Well thank God all that is all changing with time. Now we have the African contemporary interior design which is a fusion of modern and tradition. While there is really nothing wrong in expressing your love for nature and our rich colorful culture as long as you get it right, your interior design should be appealing not overwhelming! African styled living could actually be stylish, functional, uncluttered and ergonomically planned with nice visual flow, like the one you see in the photo above. The 'Modern Africa Style' saves us from the Okija shrine looking ambiance. lol
